All About Sail-a-thon
For the second year, a Sail-a-thon to raise ovarian cancer awareness will be part of the
Harvest Moon Regatta® (HMR), an offshore sailboat race from Galveston to Port Aransas on October 17th through the 19th, 2013.
All Sail-a-thon proceeds will benefit the JLR Foundation. The Judy's Mission Perpetual Trophy honoring Robinson will be presented to the skipper who raises the most donation money for the event. This will take place during the Harvest Moon Regatta® Awards Ceremony to be held the evening of Saturday, Oct. 19th, at the Port "A" City Pavilion.
This year, as part of the Sail-a-thon, each HMR skipper will be asked to hoist a teal streamer from their mast after they arrive in Port Aransas. Port Aransas merchants and regatta participants are invited to show their support by wearing teal on Saturday, Oct. 19th.
About Judy
Judy Robinson was an avid sailor, boat owner and HMR competitor. She was a member of the HMR Committee and great supporter of the event. Despite a healthy lifestyle, Judy was diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer and died within a year. While battling ovarian cancer, Judy determined something must be done to raise awareness regarding the vague signs and symptoms and ineffective screening tools for ovarian cancer.
The JLR Foundation was founded to further Judy's Mission:
1) To educate the medical community as well as women on the signs, symptoms and the
critical nature of early diagnosis of ovarian cancer
2) To fund research for effective screening and treatment of ovarian cancer
