Mission Possible Luncheon 2019

Mission Possible for Judy’s Mission Annual Luncheon

More than 350 guests attended the River Oaks Country Club on May 2nd to support the Annual Judy’s Mission Possible Luncheon co-chaired by Isabel and Danny David and Eleanor and Dan Gilbane for an inspiring luncheon focused on the warning signs and early detection of ovarian cancer. The luncheon themed Judy’s “Mission Possible”, raised support for the young investigator grant funding and educational work of the organization. Founder and Board Chairman, Cindy Winton, welcomed the group, followed by an update on research from Dr. Anil Sood, Professor and Vice Chair for Translational Research in the Departments of Gynecologic Oncology and Cancer Biology and co-director of the Center for RNA Interference and Non-Coding RNA at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Both Eleanor Gilbane and Danny David shared heartfelt stories of the loss of their mothers to an illness that often remains a mystery until it is too late. Leslie Newton, a young mother and survivor of ovarian cancer shared her story of battling her early diagnosis with a rapt audience.

Guests sipped glasses of sparkling rose’ wine, a sweet twist for the wine raffle, while Houston native and New York Times best-selling author, Katherine Center regaled the group with her comical stories of the development of her writing craft. She outlined a strong case for reading for joy, comfort and passion.

Judy’s Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation was inspired through one woman’s fight to beat ovarian cancer Judith Liebenthal Robinson, a NASA scientist who was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer and passed away in 2010. The disease that is hard to detect, has few distinctive symptoms, and is often misdiagnosed.

Seen in the crowd were: Kristy and Chris Bradshaw, Vickie Carfello, Margie Clark, Nellie Connally, Raluca Dalea and John Munroe, Isabel and Danny David, Carolyn Dorros, Courtney Fertitta, Eleanor and Dan Gilbane, Blake and Morgan Hotzel, Kristy Kincannon, Sharon Kramchak, Jennifer LaPorte, Elizabeth Leykum, Sonja Massak, Ruthie Miler, David Peck and Michelle Phillips, Vanessa Sanchez, Jackie Sheahan, Pam Soliman, Phoebe Tudor, Kim Trimble, Carter Wimberly, Cynthia Winton, Barry and Elizabeth Young, and Kelly Young.
